Dr Carsten Palme is an Otolaryngology ( Ear, Nose and Throat ) Head & Neck Surgeon and holds clinical appointments at The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Westmead Hospital, Sydney. He is Director of Head Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and a senior member of the Head and Neck Service, Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre, Westmead. Dr Carsten Palme is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Sydney University Medical School and the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney, Australia.
After attending medical school at the University of Sydney Dr Palme completed four years of advanced training in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002. He completed post-training fellowships in the American Head and Neck Society Head and Neck Oncology Program, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada and in Laser Head and Neck Surgery, University of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany.
Dr Palme is the inaugural recipient in 2009 of the Chris O’Brien Travelling Fellowship of the American Head and Neck Society. In 2010 Dr Palme was awarded the Coman Kennedy Laser Scholarship by the Australian and New Zealand Head Neck Society. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons honoured Dr Palme in 2012 with an ” Outstanding Achievement Award “. He is active in clinical research and has authored a number of peer reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr Palme is a regular invited speaker at both national and international meetings. Dr Palme has a strong interest in training and is the Director of the Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Fellowship Program at Westmead Hospitals.
Dr Palme is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Surgery and the American Head and Neck Society. Dr Palme has expertise and experience in the surgical management of diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
